What do the lyrics of Small Bump by Ed Sheeran mean?

When I went to Glastonbury this year (Which was pretty amazing) I saw
Ed Sheeran. Twice. And in both performances he performed this brand
new song which he said had taken him over a year to write. It was
called 'Small Bump'. It was a beautiful song that had really come from
the heart. The first time I saw him I thought the song was about him
having a child somewhere. But then when I heard it for the second
time, I noticed the end line was:
"You were just a small bump unborn, in just four months then torn from
life.
Maybe you were needed up there but we're still unaware of why." Did
the girl have an abortion? Or did she have a miscarriage? I am just
very confused.
